- the home of Stuart Newman, Master Luthier. I'm based in Byron Bay the most easterly point of Australia. I specialize in the creation of finest quality custom built acoustic and electric stringed instruments. I can make about 6 instruments a year. I also provide repair, maintenance and modification support for all instruments.
Freedom is at the core of Newman Guitars.
What I mean by freedom is a “ No limits approach”. I like to design from a blank canvas, drawing on 17 years experience and the worlds best available materials. I am inspired by the rich and long guitar history, by the cutting edge innovators, and by the amazing materials and tooling we have in 2009. My three guiding forces are:
This approach has led to a long string of my own innovations (yes, I am still young enough (41) and arrogant enough to believe that). And with each instrument being an evolution on the last, I am fast approaching what I believe to be the ultimate guitar. Yes, I am serious and dedicated about chasing the rainbow, as the goal posts move with every advance I make. But don't just listen to me, listen to my customers feedback, the sound samples, and, even better, come and listen to and play one of my hand-built custom guitars in person, at my studio in Byron Bay.
My greatest purpose in life is to transmit love - and I choose to do this through my work as a luthier.
I strive to make guitars of such beauty and presence that they move peoples hearts... and thus, in turn, for players of my guitars to be inspired to move peoples hearts through their music - and so on, out into the world...
