Hi, and welcome to Newman Guitars - the web contact point for Stuart Newman, Luthier. I'm based in Byron Bay Australia and specialise in the creation of finest quality custom built acoustic and electric guitars. I also provide repair, maintenance and modification support for guitarists.

Freedom is at the core of Newman Guitars.

When I design and build a guitar I focus on what an instrument could be instead of what a guitar should be.

I believe the guitar is midway through its evolution. So I don't discount everything that history has taught me, and continues to teach me.

I cherish these lessons very much, yet still allow myself freedom to design from scratch and question every step, construction and acoustic principle. "How can this be done better?" (- not easier).

Most of my breakthroughs and innovations have made my job as a Luthier more challenging, however the results speak for themselves.

 

I work from a small workshop set in the Arts and Industry quarter of the beautiful beachside township of Byron Bay, Australia's most easterly point.

I can make about eight instruments per year... meticulously, one at a time - all my custom orders are "one offs".

My greatest purpose in life is to transmit love - and I choose to do this through my work as a luthier.

I strive to make guitars of such beauty and presence that they move peoples hearts... and thus, in turn, for players of my guitars to be inspired to move peoples hearts through their music - and so on, out into the world...
