About Stuart Newman - Luthier
Making Guitars since 1992.
I love my job. I have been building guitars for 16 years, and it has been a colourful, winding road. I was born into a family of artists and craftsmen, in fact a long line going way back to James Watt, the inventor of the steam engine and our unit of power.
I still use his tools building the instruments. I was lucky to be encouraged early - angle grinder at 11, welder at 12, jewellery tools at 13.
I have worked in everything from gold and diamonds to Vacuum bagged foam epoxy core carbon fibre.
I have made :
| wedding rings | leather work |
| clothing | metal casting |
| electroplating | hi-fi audio amps & speakers |
| welding | sand blasting |
| knives | Studied electronics in the Australian army |
| furniture | rock climbing harnesses |
| kite boards | latex & silicon moulds |
Every one of these skills is somehow built into who I am now, and comes into play, informing my work.
My focus is on bringing together science and intuition. I actively incorporate my interest in:
